One of the first Candela customers, based in Stockholm, wanted to share his family’s experience from trusting Candela with providing an emission-free, new mode of transport on the water: electric hydrofoiling.

We use our Candela Seven on an everyday basis, transporting people and goods to and from our summer cottage on an island in the Stockholm archipelago. In the past, we used a cabin boat with a V8 outboard. But after purchasing a Tesla, we wanted to switch to an electric boat as well. So we bought a Candela Seven, the only electric boat able to cover the 25 nautical mile distance from the mainland to our summer cottage.

Even fully loaded with gear & people, this owner reaches his summer house with plenty of battery left.

With six people aboard, we typically drive at close to full speed, 30 knots, and cover the stretch from Stockholm to our summer house in just over an hour. Even though we’re loading up the boat with passengers and gear, we always arrive with plenty of juice left in the battery pack.

We use the boat as any other regular boat. Pulling a inflatable banana raft or a water skier works perfectly. One interesting thing was that the Candela service team contacted us because they noticed our boat consumed more energy than boats belonging to other customers. They suspected something was wrong. We could inform them everything was just fine. The higher consumption was from pulling an inflatable banana-raft with three or four kids on it…

In contrast from their previous boat, the Candela skips over the waves that used to cause slamming and discomfort on their way to their house in the archipelago.

What impresses me the most with the boat, is the seakeeping. Once you’ve driven a Candela in rough weather, it’s hard to go back to a planing boat. In a Candela, there’s simply no slamming from waves. Driving is a breeze, by the way, thanks to the software. No need to adjust trim tabs like a conventional V-hull. I trust the software so much that I regularly leave the captain’s chair when flying, to tidy up the ropes or pull in the fenders.

Buying a new boat is not usually associated with saving money per hour spent on the water, but for this customer, that was the case.

Driving a gasoline boat is expensive. With our old boat, the costs kept us from going out as much as we would have liked. Before I started the V8, I always had these nagging thoughts about how much fuel the trip would cost me. With the Candela, that issue is gone. Since we installed solar panels at our cottage, our daily trips in the archipelago are basically free. My estimate is that our family saves close to 10 000 euros every year on fuel, by driving the Candela.

Coming from a Tesla, this owner had high expectations on what electric travel could mean on the water. However, he and his family soon discovered that it’s more than just the electric propulsion that makes the Candela stand out versus other boats.

When I first bought the boat, I used to explain to my friends that Seven is the Tesla of the seas. But in retrospect, that does not paint the whole picture. The Candela Seven is a bigger leap forward for boats, than what Tesla is for cars. The Seven is electric, but it also represents a totally new mode of transport.
